The Electoral College is the body of electors that assesses nominations and formally selects members for election to officer status.

Paul Freeman

Paul retired in 2017 after 39 years in general practice, most of which was spent as a partner in a mixed practice in rural Northumberland. Paul enjoys an active retirement, maintaining his links with the profession as a member of BVA Council and as a Vetlife trustee and volunteer, studying for a history degree with the Open University, and training for competitive rowing.

“During my current term on the Electoral College, I instigated reform of the BVA JVP application process by suggesting that candidates should submit a short video presentation. This helped to level the playing field between the candidates, a few of whom were already known to some (but not all) of the College and allowed all members of the College to better form their own impressions of each candidate.”

An equine vet by vocation since the age of 3, and having been in clinical practice since 1991, Judy has recently had to step away from her equine clinical director role due to injury. Now with the opportunity to dedicate herself to more philanthropic roles within the profession, Judy is passionate about addressing the retention and recruitment issues currently being faced, as well as the effect adverse social media has on members of the profession. With over two decades in a leadership role, Judy very much enjoys mentorship, education, charity and committee roles, and enabling and inspiring people to be the best that they can be.

Rosie Booth

After four years in mixed practice, Rosie has spent her career since 2005 in various technical, marketing and managerial roles in pharmaceutical, nutrition and veterinary distribution businesses. Rosie is keen to become more involved in supporting the veterinary sector outside of her work capacity and feels her experience as a vet in industry is really relevant, yet often not well represented. With a good awareness of BVA’s mission, values and objectives, Rosie brings a fresh set of eyes and is well placed to evaluate candidates on their merits and the needs of the profession in terms of effective representation.

In addition to 3 BVA members, the Electoral College consists of:

• a BVA Past President (Daniella Dos Santos)
• BVA Board Chair (Steve Anderson Dixon) - non-voting
• BVA Chief Executive (David Calpin) – non-voting
