Help and support for vets

Support from BVA

As well as fully supporting the work of charities such as the Veterinary Benevolent Fund and the Samaritans, BVA’s own services offer invaluable help when members of the profession are in difficulty or are rebuilding their lives and returning to work after setbacks. This support includes:

Veterinary Benevolent Fund (VBF)

VBF is a registered charity which has been supporting the veterinary profession for over a hundred years.  As well as providing financial assistance through the Veterinary Benevolent Fund it also provides a network of other support services, including the Veterinary Surgeons’ Health Support Programme, the Vet Helpline and the Vetlife website.

The incidence of suicide in the veterinary profession is three to four times that of the general population and, for a variety of reasons, it can be very hard for those who work in the profession to access support. VBF helps families to survive financially when they run into unexpected difficulties, delivers professional advice and treatment to those suffering with mental health and addictive disorders and helps vets and VNs to get back to work if that is what they want.
