Dalrymple-Champneys rules

In this section you can find out about the rules for the British Veterinary Association (BVA) Dalrymple-Champneys Cup and Medal award

The Dalrymple-Champneys Selection Committee works to these rules

  • the Cup remains the property of the British Veterinary Association. A Medal will be presented to the person receiving the award which will remain his/her property
  • the award will be made to the author of work which is considered to be of outstanding merit, pertaining to any branch of veterinary science. The award will also be open to those who have done work which has not been published, but which it is considered will encourage the advancement and dissemination of knowledge of veterinary science and medicine
  • a Committee consisting of past recipients and the President, the Past President and the President Elect of the Association maintains a list which will be kept as confidential, of persons eligible whom they deem worthy of consideration for the award
  • the Committee, chaired by the President of the Association or, in his/her absence, the Past-President or President-Elect meet each year to select the next recipient
  • the award is made to a Fellow or Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons who is a member of the British Veterinary Association, other than Honorary Members who are not members of the profession
  • nominations may be submitted by members of the Committee, by Divisions of the British Veterinary Association or by individual members of the Association
  • the Committee will not consider applications by authors for their own work
  • the presentation of the award takes place during the Annual Congress of the BVA, or if no such Congress is held, at the Annual General Meeting of the Association
  • the person to whom the award is made shall have their name inscribed on the Cup at the expense of the BVA and a record of the award and the reason thereof will be kept in the archives of the BVA
  • the recipient, after presentation, is permitted to retain the Cup for one year, or until such time as another award has been made.  The Cup is insured by the British Veterinary Association against loss as a result of burglary, fire, or from other causes
