International Veterinary Officers Council

On this page you can find out about the International Veterinary Officers Council (IVOC) and the British Veterinary Association (BVA) involvement in it

About IVOC

IVOC is a forum bringing together veterinary association leaders from 6 countries to discuss issues all veterinary associations have in common.

The presidents and senior members of staff from the national veterinary associations of Canada, the USA, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and the UK make up IVOC.

Educational standards, economic standards, membership recruitment and retention, the role of the veterinary profession in ensuring the safety of our food supplies and the security of our nations against bioterrorism attacks and zoonotic diseases are the main issues for discussion.

IVOC exists to share new initiatives and successes and BVA is an active member.

The BVA President along with the BVA Secretary General attend its annual meetings. The council is hosted by each nation in turn.

Reciprocal benefits between IVOC associations

From 2012 IVOC members have agreed to offer concessional rates at their national Congresses to any member of an IVOC association. So as a BVA member you can register for any of the IVOC member association conferences at their member rate.

Also agreed was 3 months complementary membership to members of an IVOC association who come to another country to work. So, as a BVA member you can receive 3 months membership of the Australian Veterinary Association if you move to Australia to work.
