Policy formulation

In this section you can find out more about the development of policy at the British Veterinary Association (BVA)

BVA Council is the key debating chamber for policy issues.

The Veterinary Policy Group (VPG) and the Ethics and Welfare Group (EWG) develop policy for the approval of Council.

The VPG and EWG also benefit from occasional input from the BVA’s other standing committees - the Members Services Group (MSG) and the BVA Animal Welfare Foundation (BVA AWF).

BVA members are invited to contribute to the policy development process through the BVA’s divisional structure.  Each of the BVA’s divisions is represented on Council and the territorial and specialist divisions are also represented on the standing committees.

Members are invited to contribute to BVA’s consultation responses.  Contributions received are consolidated into collective BVA responses.

Policy briefs

Policy briefs provide BVA members with background information on emerging issues while policy statements present the BVA’s view on veterinary issues.  Policy briefs are available on a wide range of issues including Bluetongue, Foot and Mouth and MRSA.
