Elbow dysplasia describes the abnormal development of the elbow. The term includes a number of specific abnormalities, which affect different sites in the joint.

The purpose of the elbow scheme is to reduce the incidence of the disease in dogs used for breeding.

*can only be issued to the person(s) identified on the original certificate as the owner(s) of the dog at the time of grading.

NB Once a certificate of Elbow Dysplasia grading has been issued for a dog, the dog may not be resubmitted for grading under the Scheme.

Submissions

As from January 1st 2010 CHS certificates will only be issued if your dog has been permanently identified (microchip or tattoo). The permanent identification will be verified before the eye or radiography examination takes place. So from this date identification and registration documents are both required for CHS certification.

Publication of results

The Kennel Club is responsible for publishing elbow dysplasia results for all pedigree dogs in the Kennel Club Breed Records Supplement and on progeny registration certificates.
