Working time regulations

The Working Time Regulations were introduced in October 1998 with the aim of ensuring that employees do not have to work excessive hours. The regulations impose minimum requirements on employers whilst also allowing for a degree of flexibility so that employers and employees can make arrangements which suit their needs and the needs of the business.

The regulations are enforced by the Health and Safety Executive and local authority environmental health officers and failure to comply with the regulations can lead to potential prosecution.
