Course outline

Media training can help you with techniques for handling radio, TV and print media interviews that so you can present yourself and what you have to say to the very best advantage.

Suitable for beginners as well as those who wish to refresh their media communication skills, the BVA media training is an intensely practical course which is run by a professional journalist, with many years experience and well-versed in both radio and TV.

The course starts at 9.30am when you will learn to distil your key messages. Next each medium is discussed, then practised and later analysed. You'll practise a range of radio and TV set-ups so that you can familiarise yourself with the different situations you may find yourself in. You will also learn print media skills and pick up lots of tips along the way including general communication skills.

The subject matter will be tailored to suit your individual needs and your particular area of expertise.

Feedback from delegates

"Excellent seminar, practical and well constructed. Allowed some practice at dealing with issues of a sensitive nature."

"I wrongly assumed that the training was just going to be of use when dealing with the media, but the skills you are taught are actually ones that you use day in day out as part of normal good communications. I have undoubtedly found that focusing on them during the media training has been really valuable in my dealings with people, not just when facing the media. The training can seem a bit daunting at the outset, but it is definitely worth it."

"I was looking forward to it like a trip to the dentist, necessary but inevitably uncomfortable.  I have never considered this type of verbal skill to be a strength of mine. However David not only had the experience to be perceptive and probing but he was also very helpful and encouraging. To my great surprise I enjoyed myself. The day was a real confidence booster and I found it very valuable."

"Well worthwhile for anybody who might be in the position to have to respond to the media in any form."
