Training workshops

Find out more on the British Veterinary Association (BVA) supported training workshops held in East Africa.

The purpose is to help veterinary surgeons in East Africa to become more familiar with diseases in local species.

  • Livestock and wildlife health training workshop held in Kenya (July 2010)
    This workshop provided both theoretical and practical training for key support staff, in particular (but not exclusively) animal health assistants and fieldworkers.  Such people are the backbone of the animal health services in Kenya and thereby contribute substantially to the country’s economy and development.
  • Workshop on health and welfare of livestock held in Kenya (July 2008)
    This workshop was directed primarily at Animal Health Assistants and others concerned with domesticated animals in Kwale, Coast Province, a region where agriculture is a vital part of the livelihood of the local rural community.
  • Regional workshops on reptiles and amphibians held in Kenya (June & July 2008)
    This series of workshops was a unique opportunity to provide both theoretical and practical training to nearly one hundred Kenyans from different walks of life – staff of National Museums of Kenya and other government bodies, university researchers, education officers, biologists, a veterinarian, reptile-keepers and fieldworkers.
  • Livestock, wild animals and health: a kenyan workshop explores the issues (March 2006)
    The overall aim of this workshop was to study the factors that might influence the health of domesticated animals, wildlife and the environment and to use the information gained to assist the local community.
