Veterinary Surgeons Win Travel Scholarship
06 October 2002
Andrew Brownlow MRCVS, who graduated from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh, in July 2000, is undertaking a four month project - commenced in August 2002 - working with rangers and veterinarians in the Jazani Rainforest, Zanzibar. The project comprises two components: one being to learn about conservation protocols and the rehabilitation of injured wildlife; the second, to take part in a herd health training course and to undertake a study on behalf of Heifer Project International on the success of an introduced herd of Saanan goats to the region.
Helen Carty, who has completed her fourth year as a student at Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh, visited Uganda in September 2002 in order to undertake a study of the effect of trypanosomiasis on cattle - and, in particular, to investigate the relationship between external signs of health (e.g. coat quality, condition score) and parameters measured by laboratory techniques (e.g. level of trypanosome infection and packed cell volume).
