Travel Grants for Veterinary Undergraduates

07 February 2002

The TAWS awards are in addition to the BVA Overseas Travel Grants which are awarded annually to assist undergraduates from UK veterinary schools to visit less developed countries and the Harry Steele-Bodger Memorial Scholarship which is open to graduates of veterinary schools in the UK and Ireland who have been qualified not more than three years, or to penultimate and final year students, to enable them to undertake a tour of study abroad.

Notes for Editors:

  1. The aim of TAWS is to promote improved management, health and welfare of transport and draught animals. Many of the world's poorest people are dependent on horses, oxen, donkeys, camels, mules and buffaloes to cultivate land and transport goods and people. The charity concentrates on long term health, welfare and management programmes and focuses on methods of treatment and management which are technically, culturally and economically right for the users. The TAWS website can be viewed at: www.taws.org
  2. The BVA Overseas Travel Grant scheme, instituted in 1983, makes available a series of awards to assist veterinary undergraduates to visit developing countries. The projects being undertaken are required to include a strong element of agricultural development and be of benefit to the country concerned.
  3. The Harry Steele-Bodger Memorial Scholarship was established in 1953 to honour the memory of Mr Henry W Steele-Bodger, President of the BVA 1939/41, in recognition of his great services to the veterinary profession and agriculture, particularly during the war years of 1939/45. The object of the award is to further the aims and aspirations of the late Harry Steele-Bodger by providing a travel scholarship or contribution to a tour of study abroad.
  4. For further information please contact Helena Cotton at BVA on tel: 020 7636 6541 or e-mail: helenac@bva.co.uk.
