Veterinary Surveillance

10 December 2002

Effective implementation will be key and the BVA and its divisions look forward to working closely with Defra in achieving enhanced veterinary surveillance in the UK. We particularly welcome the acknowledgement that it is intended that the strategy will cover all species and that a pilot project for companion animals is to be implemented, since this will provide a platform for the development and implementation of active targeted surveillance for exotic infectious diseases of companion animals - something that the BVA and British Small Animal Veterinary Association called for when the extension of the Pet Travel Scheme to North America was recently announced."
