Renal Transplantation in Cats
27 February 2003
Mr Jinman explained that the BVA Ethics Committee had first considered this subject in 1998 and that BVA Council had debated the subject three times, before, in July 2000 voting against the adoption of the Committee's paper, 'Kidney Transplantation for the Treatment of Chronic Renal Failure in Cats'. "The BVA is" said Mr Jinman "quite clear that whilst the technical capability to perform such complex procedures exists, serious consideration needs to be given as to whether or not the performing of such surgery will be in the best interests of the welfare of the animals involved. Whilst the RCVS may have decided that the process is ethical the BVA remains unhappy as to how it may be ethically undertaken."
