In this section you can find out more about the British Veterinary Association (BVA) Harry Steele-Bodger Memorial Travel Scholarship
The BVA Harry Steele-Bodger Memorial Travel Scholarship was established in September 1953 to honour the memory of Henry W Steele-Bodger, President of the Association from 1939 to 1941, in recognition of his great services to the veterinary profession and agriculture, particularly during the war years of 1939 to 1945.
The scholarship is intended to assist a visit by an individual to a veterinary or agricultural school or research institute, or some other course of study approved by the governing committee.
The award is open to
- graduates of the veterinary schools in the UK and Ireland who have been qualified not more than three years
- to penultimate and final-year veterinary students
The 2010 grant round is now closed.
Information on the 2011 scholarship will be available from October.
2009 scholarship
Abigail Collinson and Catherine Wilson were joint winners of the 2009 scholarship. Abigail’s project involved a feasibility study for the provision of a community-based animal healthcare worker (CAHW) scheme in the region of Kharekhari Village, Rajastan, India. Catherine studied the zoonotic causes of abortion present in domestic ruminants in Western Kenya and correlated her findings with the zoonotic diseases present within the human community in this area.
