YVN representative: Chris Booth

Chris explains his university and work experience and why he wants to sit on BVA Council as Young Vet Network (YVN) representative

I have been a BVA member since my third year of vet school and firmly believe in having an active organisation that speaks for the UK veterinary profession as a whole. I am passionate about increasing the effectiveness of the profession in the UK and am deeply concerned about many issues that affect the veterinary profession at present. I have been an outspoken critic of the ever increasing veterinary student debt, and have joined the BVA Education committee to help get my views across and to try to exact a change in BVA (and hopefully government) policy.

During my university days I was secretary and president of the university Symphonia, as well as secretary and president of the Veterinary Zoological Society. I am on the educational committee of the BVA and am an active member of the Young Vet Network.

I feel we need to convert the BVA in to an organisation that is more inclusive and more thoroughly represents the profession. Young and recently graduated members of the profession often do not see the point in joining the BVA. I know the BVA has started to address this concern, but I feel more needs to be done. I would be honoured to represent my contemporaries in this respect.
