Make your voice heard
This section details how, as a new graduate member, you can ensure any key issues you face are raised at the highest level within the BVA
Representation of recent graduate concerns is a key part of the Young Vet Network (YVN), and we feel that Council is a good forum for allowing recent graduates to contribute to the debates and feed back to their peer group.
Graduate representation
Since December 2006 we have two recent graduate members represented on the BVA Council.
Following a nomination and election process, two people were selected for the position of recent graduate Council representative. They are;
Louisa Rance - Senior Graduate Representative, elected in December 2006
John Remnant - Junior Graduate Representative, elected in July 2008
As a recent graduate member, you can contact the representatives to discuss any matter relating to the veterinary profession, email yvn@bva.co.uk.
The representatives will then decide the best way to represent your views or concerns, or will just lend a friendly ear.
The role of the graduate representatives on Council
In their role on Council, the graduate representatives will be expected to
- scrutinise papers, encouraging comment from other recent graduates
- attend all Council meetings or nominate an alternative
- support the other graduate representative in post as and when necessary
- contribute actively to the YVN, encouraging others to do the same
- keep in touch with YVN progress, visiting BVA HQ when time permits
