Performing post-mortems isn’t a regular occurrence for the mixed practitioner but is a vital tool in diagnosing a threat to herd health.
This course is a comprehensive visual guide to lesions seen in all the common causes of disease and livestock loss. There will be discussion on the pathogenesis of common diseases for a strategic approach to treatment and prevention. Finally you’ll explore your role in surveillance for endemic and emerging diseases giving you confidence to deal with on farm outbreaks if the worst happens.
Registration will open at 09.30, with the course starting at 10.00. The course will finish at 16.30.

After attending this course you will be able to:
- Identify gross appearance of lesions seen in common causes of death in cattle and sheep
- Understand the pathogenesis of diseases of livestock, which will lead to better understanding of lesions seen and treatment/ prevention strategies
- Understand when it is appropriate to collect samples to confirm/ further a diagnosis, and which samples are appropriate/ cost-effective for which diseases
- Understand the aims and challenges of surveillance for endemic and emerging diseases of livestock
- Know which diseases account for most mortality in livestock and how they can me measured.

Payment conditions Payment for BVA courses must be received in advance. On acceptance of your booking a confirmation email will be sent to you. Prices are subject to 20% VAT and bookings will be confirmed with a VAT notice. Member discount Please note that in order to qualify for the member discount it must be the member that attends the course.
