Are you the voice of the veterinary profession for your region?

Opportunities have opened in the North west, South west, South east, East of England and Scotland. BVA is encouraging representatives from all sectors of the veterinary profession to apply but requires candidates to be based in that geographical region. Applicants will need to have time available to commit to gathering members’ views on key policy areas and representing those views at four BVA Council meetings per year.

The term of the BVA regional representative role is for three years and is ideal for a motivated individual with an engaged interest in the current issues affecting the profession. Representatives will promote the good name and values of BVA. All of this work is fully supported by BVA headquarters, and representatives will receive a free membership for the duration of their term with expenses paid.

James Russell, BVA President, said:

 “BVA Council is a cornerstone of how we form policy on animal health and welfare and achieve our mission as the leading body representing, supporting and championing the whole UK veterinary profession. Our regional representatives play an essential role, contributing to our horizon scanning and future planning, and helping to inform BVA’s Policy Committee.

 “In a complex veterinary landscape, with a diverse and wide range of issues relating to animal health and welfare, the workforce and veterinary education, it’s essential that members have the best person to represent them within BVA.”

Outgoing BVA North-west regional representative, Steph Walsh, added:

“Having been a BVA member on and off since graduation, I was delighted when I succeeded in becoming rep, everyone was so welcoming and friendly, and everyone's contributions to discussions were welcomed and listened to. I found being on BVA council really rewarding, to play even a small part in the amazing policies produced and work done for the benefit of the whole profession and animal welfare. I highly recommend volunteering for Council.”

BVA members who are interested in becoming a representative for their area can apply before 9am on 30^th November 2020, when nominations close.
