Announcement: BVA Northern Ireland Branch President ‘will be greatly missed’

27 June 2017

BVA President Gudrun Ravetz regrets to inform members that BVA Northern Ireland Branch President Jean Wales has passed away (26 June).

The BVA President said:

“Jean made a hugely valuable contribution in both her role with BVA Northern Ireland Branch, and in her day-job working closely with Northern Ireland's Chief Veterinary Officer at the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA).

“Jean has always been at the forefront of veterinary politics, championing the veterinary voice by taking on roles such as BVA NI Branch Representative and Honorary Secretary, and she was a driving force in public health innovation as well as being an active member of the UK-wide Veterinary Public Health Association (VPHA).

"Jean started her term as BVA NI Branch President, the principal representative of BVA in Northern Ireland, in January and has continued to establish herself as a passionate advocate for animal health, welfare and public health. Although we will not see Jean her legacy will live on, she made the world both near and far a better place.”
