The RCVS has released fresh details of its scheme to support vets who flee to the UK to escape persecution.
Refugees or asylum seekers who hold veterinary degrees not currently recognised by the college will be eligible for financial aid in certain circumstances under a policy developed with the support of the Refugee Council, a charity.
The move follows a decision by the college’s council to agree ‘in principle’ to subsidise some vets with refugee status to take the statutory examination for membership.
The RCVS said the Refugee Council would technically pay for the scheme but that the charity would be reimbursed for all expenditure on examination fees from a pot of money (amount to be confirmed) that has been set aside by the college for this purpose.
