Job satisfaction low among vet receptionists

Over two-thirds of vet receptionists are paid less than £10 an hour and the average rating for their job satisfaction is 3 out of 10, a new survey has found.

The survey of 812 vet receptionists was carried out in August and September this year by the British Veterinary Receptionist Association (BVRA), a not-for-profit membership organisation that aims to recognise and raise the status of receptionists within the veterinary industry.

It found that only half of the vet receptionists participating in the survey were paid more than the UK minimum wage, 33 per cent worked longer than their contracted hours and 37 per cent did not receive overtime. As a result, 64 per cent of those questioned felt they were not paid fairly for the responsibilities they carried. The Covid-19 pandemic exacerbated receptionists’...
