The RCVS Mind Matters Initiative has awarded funding to two research projects examining the mental health aspects of racial discrimination and moral injury in the veterinary professions.
Both projects will receive £20,000 having been selected as this year’s recipients of the Saran Brown Mental Health Research Grant. The grant was founded in memory of Sarah Brown, an RCVS council member who passed away in 2017.
The first project is a joint Royal Veterinary College (RVC) and British Ethnicity & Diversity Society (BVEDS) study of ‘Experiences of racism and its impacts on mental wellbeing in black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) people working and studying in the UK veterinary profession’. It will be led by the RVC’s research impact officer Victoria Crossley and BVEDS co-founder Navaratnam Partheeban.
