Survey on antimicrobial use in sheep

As a profession, we are aware of the importance of appropriate antimicrobial use (AMU) and its impact on the development of antimicrobial resistance. Recording AMU is also becoming increasingly important to facilitate trade and meet national reporting requirements.

In July 2019, the Sheep Antibiotic Guardian Group, a subgroup of the Sheep Health and Welfare Group published a core set of four metrics to help determine the level of AMU in the sheep industry. However, the extent to which these metrics are already recorded by sheep owners and/or their vets is not entirely clear.

The Epidemiology Research Unit at Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) is conducting an online survey of British sheep flock owners and large animal veterinary practices in Scotland.
