Event Description

Registration will open at 9.30am, with the course starting at 10am. The course will finish at 4pm.

This course will cover common conditions for the small animal general practitioner, with an emphasis of ‘what drug when’.  Most ophthalmic medications are not licensed for dogs and cats, but there have nevertheless been some changing trends over recent years.
The lectures will be short and varied, concentrating on what drugs to use for common conditions. The conditions will be summarised in terms of their key clinical signs and current diagnostic tests.  For example, laboratory testing for conjunctivitis in cats and how to assess intraocular pressure in uveitis and glaucoma.

The following topics will be included:

• antibiotics for common eye problems (conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers)
• conjunctivitis (differences between dogs and cats)
• corneal ulcers (non-healing, superficial, deep, ‘melting’)
• dry eye (refresher on cyclosporine, a newer option and the vast range of lubricants simplified)
• feline herpesvirus-1 (an update on antiviral therapy options)
• glaucoma (favoured drugs for acute emergency glaucoma [dog], and chronic glaucoma in the dog and cat)

The speaker has a strong history of general practice from personal experience at the start of her career. The presentations will be strongly illustrated. The course will be on conditions in dogs and cats.

Please note - if you want to book three courses for the price of two please call the CPD and Events Officer on 020 7908 6336
