Course programme (204KB PDF)

In this course we will cover a wide range of companion animal emergencies and how to deal with them.

We will start the day with the principles behind triage, major body systems assessment and stabilisation of critical organ disorders. The course will cover approaches to coagulation disorders, a common presenting problem in emergency practice.

We will walk through a common critically ill emergency case, utilising this as a jumping off point to describe and practise some key emergency techniques. Given the frequency of sepsis as an emergency presentation or as a consequence of trauma we will then discuss sepsis and the pathology behind it. We will discuss modern approaches to small animal intoxications as well as focusing on a number of common toxins.

In addition to this one of the lectures will be selected by course delegates. Delegates will be sent a range of options to vote on, with the most popular topic being covered at the course.

The five key things delegates will learn from this course are:

  • The core principles behind approaching critical patients
  • A foundation for dealing with coagulopathiess
  • How to deal with intoxications in practice
  • Why sepsis happens and how to best deal with it
  • Useful emergency techniques for a variety of situations

Please note - if you want to book three courses for the price of two please call Helen Dingle on 020 7908 6336.
