Event Description

Course programme (167KB PDF)

Registration will open at 09.30, with the course starting at 10.00. The course will finish at 16.00.

This course is aimed at all farm animal practitioners who treat cattle, sheep, goats, reindeer, pigs and South American camelids.

The course will discuss why analgesia is important, the value of multi-modal analgesia, and options available for analgesia, with discussion of the prescribing cascade. This will be illustrated with a series of individual case examples.

The second part of this course will discuss options for anaesthesia in these patients, with the prescribing cascade in mind and knowledge of adverse effects reported in specific species.

We will discuss preparation and anaesthesia in the field for common conditions, and also when field anaesthesia is not appropriate. This will be illustrated with case examples and we will consider some practical dilemmas.

The five key things delegates will learn from this course are:

  • The options available for analgesia in this species group
  • What multi-modal analgesia is and why it is important
  • The prescribing cascade and how it can be of benefit
  • The value of a variety of local blocks and how to perform them
  • How to prepare and perform anaesthesia in the field in a variety of species, and also when this is not appropriate

Please note - if you want to book three courses for the price of two please call Helen Dingle on 020 7908 6336.
