Event Description

Registration will open at 09.30, with the course starting at 10.00. The course will finish at 16.00.

The appeal of the good life means smallholdings are increasing. This course will give you the confidence you need to handle and assess the individual pig patient. Common diseases and routine surgical procedures, such as castration, prolapse replacement and de-tusking, will be explained step-by-step through the use of case studies. There will be plenty of opportunity for discussion on health planning for the small pig herd, including husbandry and preventative medicine. A focus on the legal pitfalls regarding pig rearing will ensure you feel secure advising smallholders and pet pig owners.

By reviewing the UK goat industry, and the vet’s role within this, all aspects of goat health including common diseases, management problems, frequently-seen emergencies and general health planning will be covered. A session on the legislation around prescribing medicines, parasitology and undertaking surgical procedures, will shed light on the challenges faced when dealing with goats and ensure you have a well-planned approach when dealing with your next goat call.

After attending this course you will be able to:
• Have a logical approach to the pet pig consultation
• Plan sedation and anaesthesia protocols for pigs and goats
• Guide your clients through pig health planning and surrounding legislation
• Feel confident with routine procedures in goats
• Navigate the legal requirements when prescribing medicines for the goat herd.

Please note - if you want to book three courses for the price of two please call the Jessica Wachtel on 020 7908 6336.
