Event Description

Course programme (166KB PDF)

Registration will open at 09.30, with the course starting at 10.00. The course will finish at 16.00.

This course is aimed at first opinion vets who wish to improve their knowledge of poultry medicine in general practice. Ideal for those who have little or no experience or confidence with chickens, this course will also be appropriate for vets who are interested in chickens and want to provide better medical care.

Aspects of husbandry, clinical pathology, imaging, anaesthesia/analgesia, and medical and surgical conditions will be covered, and the legal aspects of dispensing medications for backyard birds will also be discussed.

The whole course aims to demonstrate a “practical approach” that vets can start using as soon as they return to their practice.

The five key things delegates will learn from this course are:

  • How to approach the sick chicken patient in a more confident and knowledgeable fashion
  • How to recognise signs of disease and formulate differential diagnoses for chickens and select further diagnostics
  • How to safely anaesthetise a chicken and provide appropriate analgesia
  • How to develop appropriate treatment protocols for a wide variety of presentations
  • How to dispense medications to backyard birds responsibly and legally

Please note - if you want to book three courses for the price of two please call Helen Dingle on 020 7908 6336.
