Employee wellbeing in the workplace - a guide for employers

It is important for employers to consider employee wellbeing and to help to manage work-related stress. It demonstrates a commitment by the business to behave ethically and ensures a healthy workforce which in turn allows for greater staff retention, reduction of absence due to sickness, and improved productivity.

The aim of this guide is to signpost to various organisations that can help address employee wellbeing in the workplace and issues such as stress, which is a major cause of illness and mental health problems in the veterinary profession.

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) offers a definition of workplace stress in its guide How to tackle workplace stress and tells us that 30.7 million working days were lost to work-related ill health and injuries in 2017/18 and estimates that the cost to society is approximately £4 billion each year.
