Ionising radiation - myth busting guide

The Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 came into force on 1 January 2018.

Please note that the BVA IRR99 guide has been withdrawn from sale while it is reviewed to bring it in line with IRR17. The updated guide should be available for sale towards the end of Q1 in 2019.

In the meantime, the second edition of the guide will be considered acceptable by RCVS inspectors for the purposes of the Practice Standards Scheme.

The most important thing you can do to comply is carry out an appropriate risk assessment and carry out all the actions identified by that risk assessment.

In addition, all veterinary employers who work with X-rays should have registered with HSE by Monday 5 February 2018.

The BVA guidance note is intended to help you navigate some of the myths and concerns that have arisen following the introduction of IRR17.
