"As a profession, I genuinely believe we've got some real challenges coming up over the next few years and the more of us that are members of this incredible organisation the stronger we will all be, because together we are stronger."
Francesca is with us
"The great thing about BVA working together with vets in practice is that they have that voice, they have that platform where they can share with the public what exactly we're doing everyday."
Sarah is with us
"Being a member of BVA is really important to me as a vet. Just coming together and having this voice to further animal welfare, to promote the profession, and to show what a great job so many vets are doing is so, so important."

Our impact: influencing for change

England
We worked with vet and MP Danny Chambers to support the Animal Welfare (Import of Dogs, Cats and Ferrets) Bill, to help end puppy smuggling and ban imports of animals with mutilations, and we published our policy position calling on a phasing out of farrowing crates, securing commitment from Minister Zeichner who echoed our calls.

Northern Ireland
After years of advocacy, meeting with MPs, and being part of the Government working groups, we have managed to secure a solution to the supply of veterinary medicines in Northern Ireland beyond the December 2025 grace period. We also held a stakeholder event at the Balmoral Show attended by Minister Muir.

Scotland
We welcomed Scottish Government plans to introduce a licensing regime for Canine Fertility Clinics following our partnership lobbying with key stakeholders. We also briefed MSPs to support the Welfare of Dogs (Scotland) Bill and supported the Scottish Government in drafting the Code of Practice.

Wales
We successfully lobbied for the enforcement of mandatory CCTV in slaughterhouses, which will help safeguard animal welfare and support the important work of Official Veterinarians in public health work. We also played a key role on the TB Governance Board set up to tackle bTB in Wales.
