BVA Advancement of Veterinary Science Award (Dalrymple-Champneys Cup and Medal)
BVA Advancement of Veterinary Science Award (Dalrymple-Champneys Cup and Medal) recognises a BVA member who has helped to advance veterinary science and medicine through research and knowledge sharing. They have authored outstanding scientific work or undertaken activities which advanced veterinary science and spread their knowledge. Their work has made a meaningful impact and helped to improve understanding of their chosen area of work.
Eligibility: This award is open to BVA members who have authored outstanding work from any field of veterinary science, or those who have undertaken other activities which encouraged the advancement of veterinary science and medicine. Nominations are invited from BVA members or BVA divisions, but self-nominations are not considered.
Entry criteria:
In assessing the nominations for this award, the judges may consider:
- Significant contributions
Work is of substantially high quality and volume to have advanced veterinary science and medicine. Evidence may include the number of papers published in reputable journals
- Meaningful impact
Evidence of the scale of impact their work has made on the veterinary profession and/or animal welfare, eg the importance of topic and improvements this had led to.
- Beyond the science
Efforts which go beyond scientific papers, for example to disseminate the knowledge gained from research
- Leading role
The individual has personally made a tangible impact, demonstrably playing a significant role in their chosen field. This may be demonstrated by instances of being the first named author, or reputation as a leading authority in the field.
How will this award be judged?
Nominations require a supporting statement, list of up to ten most significant contributions or Google Scholar / ORCID link, and a short CV (max 2 pages). Judges will score nominations based on the entry criteria. It is not necessary to evidence all criteria, however this will enable a higher score at judging. Please give as much detail as possible.
Selection process: Selection committee (previous winners + BVA officer) recommend a shortlist of 3, in order of preference. Awards group to review the shortlist and endorses the committee’s recommendation for a winner if possible.
