When the cost of living is rising rapidly, wouldn’t you like to save money on your Home Insurance? As proud partners with the BVA for nearly 25 years, we have provided a large number of BVA members with Home Insurance. Now, we are providing you with the following tips on how you could save money on your buildings and contents insurance.

Increase your excess

A higher excess could lead to lower premiums because the insurance company assumes less risk.

Shop around

You probably hear it all the time – compare quotes and shop around for a Home Insurance policy. But you might end up with a policy that has hidden gaps in your coverage which could present problems should you need to make a claim.

The advantage of arranging Home Insurance through a broker like us, is that we will search our panel of insurers to get you a policy that suits your needs. No more trawling through endless online comparison deals which can be time consuming and confusing.

Calculate your contents value correctly

Whether you own or rent a property, it is strongly advised you take out Contents Insurance. Taking time to calculate the total value of your contents, including furniture, tech, appliances, and soft furnishings, is crucial. Overestimating the total value of your contents can lead to you paying a higher premium. Underestimating the total value can lead to you being underinsured and potentially experiencing problems at the time of a claim.

Avoid small claims

Filing multiple small claims can lead to higher premiums because insurance companies may view frequent claims as a sign of higher risk. Fixing smaller issues around your home yourself can help with this.

Improve home security

Installing alarm systems, security cameras, smoke detectors, and locks that comply with your insurer’s requirements can reduce the risk of theft and damage. Some insurers offer discounts for homes that feature advanced security systems, especially if you have expensive contents.

If you need more information on the type of locks that comply with insurers’ requirements, download our Guide to LocksInstall outside lights that are either triggered by movement or on a timer to come on at dusk and turn off in the morning.

Regular home maintenance

Inspecting and repairing your roof, cleaning gutters, and addressing plumbing issues promptly, can help prevent larger problems that could lead to larger claims. Insulating pipes, servicing boilers and even keeping your outside area or garden well-maintained can go towards reducing damage.

Annual insurance reviews

Taking time to discuss your options with our insurance team could help you save in ways you didn’t anticipate. This can include ways to pay for your Home Insurance premium; spread out over a period of a few months or in a single payment.
