British Veterinary Association responds to competition watchdog’s provisional decision and welcomes call for vet practice regulation
15 Oct 2025
The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has welcomed the UK Government’s commitment to reform the Veterinary Surgeons Act (VSA), as outlined in the Chancellor’s Budget Statement (Wednesday 26 November 2025).
Welcoming the news, BVA President Dr. Rob Williams MRCVS said: “BVA has been pushing for reform of the outdated Veterinary Surgeons Act for many, many years and in recent months we’ve worked closely with Defra on what reformed legislation could look like. It’s therefore extremely positive to see the Government once again committing to reform in the Chancellor’s Budget Statement today and with the consultation expected to launch in the coming weeks, I strongly encourage veterinary colleagues to engage with the process, ensure their voices are heard and help us grasp this opportunity to shape a veterinary sector that is fit for the 21st century.”
