BVA raises serious concerns as Cambridge University vet school faces renewed uncertainty

The news comes just weeks after the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) extended conditional accreditation of the degree for a year following significant improvements, having previously identified ‘wide-ranging concerns’.

This is deeply worrying news and BVA is working closely with Cambridge students, alumni and staff, on next steps and is committed to making the case for the university to continue the course. A resilient veterinary workforce relies on a healthy pipeline of homegrown talent and the UK’s vet schools, including Cambridge, play a crucial role. 

BVA President Dr. Rob Williams MRCVS said: “When we met with senior leadership at Cambridge University back in June, we secured reassurances that they remained committed to the long-term future of the vet school.  It’s therefore deeply concerning to hear that once again the future of Cambridge Vet School is in doubt. Working with students, alumni and staff, we’re seeking clarity on the situation and will make the case for its veterinary medicine degree course to continue. 

“The ongoing uncertainty around the future of Cambridge will be hugely concerning for everyone affected and it’s vital that where possible the impact of this uncertainty is minimised.
