The British Veterinary Association’s (BVA) charity, the Animal Welfare Foundation (AWF), is searching for talented people to join its Board of Trustees and committees as it embarks on a new three-year strategy.

The charity is looking for new trustees with a background in charity governance and a Treasurer with strong financial skills and experience. There are also vacancies on its Education Committee, which plans and delivers a range of educational initiatives, including the renowned annual Discussion Forum, and on its Grants Committee, which assesses and funds welfare research projects.

Animal Welfare Foundation Chair of Trustees Julian Kupfer said: “This is an exciting time to volunteer at AWF with its new strategy and an even closer working relationship with BVA than ever. We’re looking for people with the time and expertise to help govern and direct the charity and play a key role in its education and research work. We have recently restructured how we operate, so as well as looking for new Trustees, we are opening our committees to enable more veterinary and welfare professionals to get meaningfully involved.”

British Veterinary Association President Rob Williams said: “This is a brilliant opportunity to get involved with our charity which works hard to share knowledge and evidence, and champion the welfare of animals. If you have the skills and expertise to share, we want to hear from you so you can help AWF make a difference.”

Established in 1983, AWF places animal welfare at the forefront of veterinary knowledge via research, education and debate. It supports improvements in animal welfare by funding animal welfare research and education initiatives that consider farmed animals, horses, pets, and wildlife.  This includes student and graduate education. Its annual Discussion Forum brings influential people together to explore contested or fast-moving areas of welfare science, ethics, and practice.

The deadline for applications is Wednesday, 18 February 2026. Full criteria available here
