The British Veterinary Association has teamed up with Zoetis to launch a new UK wide award celebrating inspirational young vets who are making a difference through their day to day work.

Recognising that the transition from student to qualified vet can be a challenging period, the BVA Young Vet of the Year Award supported by Zoetis aims to shine a light on rising stars who are making a valuable contribution across the profession.

This new award is the first of its kind in terms of cross-community reach and is open to all vets registered with the RCVS and in the first eight years of their careers. Applications can be from those working within any veterinary sphere, including clinical practice, research, education or veterinary politics. The organisers are looking for an ‘exceptional young vet’ whose work is recognised within the workplace or has benefited the veterinary community.

BVA and Zoetis are working together to support, recognise and champion the essential work of the UK’s young vets and this award is part of a broader, long-term partnership. BVA and Zoetis will jointly announce the winner during the Gala Dinner at the London Vet Show on 14 November 2019 where a prize of £1000 cash as well as a career-enhancing experience with Zoetis will be awarded.

BVA Junior Vice President, Daniella Dos Santos said,

“This award will highlight and champion a young vet who makes a huge difference in their field and goes above and beyond what is expected of them at an early stage in their career. We are looking forward to seeing inspiring entries from across the veterinary community.

“We want to celebrate the valuable contribution that young vets make both in practice and non-clinical roles, and we’re delighted to be partnering with Zoetis on this ground-breaking new award.”

Zoetis Senior Vice President and Cluster lead, Jamie Brannan said,

“Zoetis is proud to be a partner helping to build a habit of recognition. Gaining your qualifications, delivering in your role as a young vet takes time and commitment. By sponsoring this award, we aim to give young vets encouragement to continue to do the right thing and make the difference. I am personally also looking forward to seeing the nominations, a testament to the impact you are making.”

The Young Vet of the year award is open to self-entry and nominations. The deadline for entries is Thursday 1st August 2019.
