The big issues we’re tackling this year
Your voice shapes our work and this year we’re focusing on six key priorities impacting you, the profession and animal welfare.
Through policy development, political lobbying and public campaigning, we’ll address your concerns, seize opportunities and drive change. Your priorities are also shaping the support and resources we deliver to help you in your daily work.
Veterinary Surgeons Act reform
We need veterinary legislation that's fit for purpose in the 21st century. We secured a White Paper, we're now pressing UK Government and Parliament to progress these proposals into law.
Competition and Markets Authority investigation: next steps
The CMA concluded its investigation into vet services for household pets and we're now supporting members with practical resources to navigate and comply with its mandatory measures.
Preparing for emerging disease threats
How ready is the UK and the profession to respond to the next national disease outbreak - we'll identify where more support is needed, make recommendations to Government, and provide practical guidance and resources for use in practice.
Tackling animal welfare issues
We’re making sure your expertise is heard by pressing the UK Government to deliver the commitments in its Animal Welfare Strategy and holding the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland governments to their manifesto pledges.
Careers and workplace support
We’re publishing practical career-path resources to help you access the breadth of opportunities across the veterinary profession and make informed choices about your next step. We’re also bringing members together to shape better veterinary workplaces.
Shouting about the work you do
This year we’re launching a new public campaign celebrating the difference you make every day and championing the value of being part of the veterinary profession.
Our policy, lobbying and campaigning priorities are shaped by members through our Divisions, Branches across the devolved nations and Policy Committee, before being agreed by BVA Council each September.
