The CMA, which recently announced its final decision following its investigation, will begin rolling out its legally binding remedy orders in September. To support vet teams to become remedy compliant, two dedicated sessions discussing the outcome of the CMA investigation will take place at BVA Live at the NEC Birmingham on 11 and 12 June:

Friday 12 June at 2.25pm

This will begin with a presentation and Q&A from Martin Coleman updating on the CMA’s final decision and explaining next steps. BVA President Rob Williams will then chair a panel discussion with independent practice owner and director of Village Vets Formby Kate Higgins; British Veterinary Nursing Association Senior Vice President Lyndsay Hughes; and British Small Animal Veterinary Association Vice President Susan Little, exploring the possible impact of the impending CMA Orders on practices and what comes next.

Managing complaints post-CMA, what do you need to know?

Thursday 11 June at 2pm: Business, Careers and Debates Theatre

This session will see BVA President Rob Williams joined by head of the Veterinary Client Mediation Service Jennie Jones, and director of Thrums Vets Gavin Durston, to explore how to handle complaints effectively and transparently, and how to prepare for – and participate in – mediation constructively.

BVA President Dr Rob Williams MRCVS said: “The CMA investigation has been a constant source of concern and discussion over the past two and a half years, but it is now drawing to a close, with the CMA starting to roll out their legally binding remedy orders in September. BVA’s recent Voice of the Veterinary Profession survey showed just 62% of vets say their practice currently has a complaints system that fits the CMA’s proposed requirements, andwe know ensuring your practice is compliant is a daunting prospect, so this session  is a chance to hear advice from our panel what you can do to make navigating the changes as smooth as possible.”
