BVA speaks to the BBC amid reports of rising vet costs impacting animal welfare
24 Jun 2025
There’s been a lot of misunderstanding and misinformation circulating regarding the distribution of the Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA) Provisional Decision Report (PDR), which is due to be published imminently.
BVA has raised this directly with the CMA and it has provided us with these Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to help clarify the situation.
The CMA has confirmed that when it publishes the Provisional Decision Report, some confidential business information will be redacted. After publication it plans to share an unredacted version with the external advisers to the large veterinary groups. Strict confidentiality rules mean the external advisers will not be permitted to share any confidential unredacted information with the large veterinary groups themselves.
We will study the CMA’s Provisional Decision Report carefully and will raise concerns about anything that will unfairly impact the veterinary profession.
