Neil Paton tells us why the Gwaredu BVD team are now calling for vets to help shape what happens next, and work to remove this disease from the national herd.
One of the reasons I wanted to get involved in BVA was to have the chance to make a positive difference, whether that was to the veterinary profession, the animals under our care or the clients that we serve. Becoming the President of BVA Welsh Branch has allowed me to do that in a much wider arena by influencing various organisations with BVA policy positions, which I am proud to say have been reached by robust debate amongst members.
Political activity can seem slightly distant from our day-to-day lives, but the referendum on our participation in the European Union (EU) was a democratic exercise that impacted on all of us. It will impact on all of us professionally and for many, as in my case through being married to a European citizen, personally.
Whilst stopping for fuel at a local garage on the way home from work, I pulled in behind a sheep scanning trailer whose owner was also looking for fuel to get home. What I noticed about this individual was his wellington boots and overtrousers which were covered in mud and hadn’t been cleaned at least since his last visit.
