An exciting project is under way to transform BVA headquarters in London, and create a modern and welcoming space. Here we explains more about the project, and see some concept design images.
In October we appointed architects Manalo & White to work with us on an exciting project to transform BVA’s headquarters in Mansfield Street, London. Our impressive Grade II* listed building has been home to the Association since 1953. It’s a beautiful building that has been adapted over the years, but it is now very much in need of repair and modernisation.
The aims of the project are to:
The project is being funded entirely from BVA’s reserves, and will not impact on membership fees.
The architects have consulted with BVA staff and Council members to get a better understanding of how we use the building and how we would like to improve it for the future. We have been particularly impressed by Manalo & White’s enthusiasm for retaining the unique historical character of the building, whilst helping us make the best use of the space.
These images show some initial design concepts that the architects have put together.
A planning and listed building consent application has now been made to Westminster Council and we are consulting with conservation experts. Work has already begun on ‘opening up’ which enables the architects and contractors to check the floor and wall structures – so if you’re visiting BVA in the next few weeks and months please don’t be alarmed if you see a few holes appearing.
In order to minimise the disruption to staff, members and visitors, we have decided that during the building work we will relocate to temporary office accommodation elsewhere in central London for about six months from this summer.
This will help us to reduce the overall timeframe and cost of the project, as the contractors won’t have to work around our staff. We do not anticipate any disruption to service for members during this period but please bear with us and keep an eye on our website for any updates.
