Do you know an inspirational young or early career vet who always goes the extra mile? Nominate them now for this year’s award.
We're calling for animal owners and veterinary professionals to nominate exceptional candidates for this prestigious award, which is supported by Zoetis and celebrates vets in the early stages of their career who have shown outstanding care, dedication or success.
David Charles, Young Vet of the Year 2024
Our most recent winner David Charles, demonstrated enthusiasm, an outstanding range of commitment and support for the farming community, and resilience during challenging times to secure the title. After beginning his career in mixed practice and specialising in small ruminant work, he stepped away from clinical work after a serious car accident but went on to set up a veterinary consultancy, offering CPD training for vets and students alongside The Webinar Vet and Vet Times. Last year, he joined NoBACZ Healthcare as its International Business Development Manager, where he works to bring its innovative and sustainable products into the livestock health markets globally.
Henry Lamb, Young Vet of the Year 2023
Poultry vet Henry Lamb secured the title in recognition of his outstanding work tackling Bird Flu (avian influenza), as the outbreak of this devastating disease spread across the country in 2023. He is also a mental health first aider and trustee of regional rural mental health charity You Are Not Alone (YANA), deputy rotation lead for the new RVC poultry rotation, and is co-lead of his practice’s green group.
Hannah Hunt, Young Vet of the Year 2022
Mixed animal vet Hannah Hunt was named BVA Young Vet of the Year in 2022 in recognition of her passion and exceptional work across multiple species including farm animals, equine and companion animals in Aberystwyth. Hannah, who graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2015, also appeared on national radio giving veterinary advice and on children’s television to promote being a “big animal vet”.
