BVA Council

BVA Council represents all members and is the key debating chamber within the Association. All BVA committees report to Council.

Current Council vacancies – regional representatives

Our regional representatives are integral to the activities of Council - contributing to effective horizon scanning on matters of veterinary policy and providing an informed steer to BVA’s Policy Committee.

We’re looking for members based in:

  • North East
  • Yorkshire & Humber
  • East Midlands
  • West Midlands
  • London
  • Northern Ireland
  • Wales

What’s involved?

  • Gathering members’ views on key policy areas, with full support from HQ
  • Representing those views at 3 meetings per year in London, and one elsewhere in the UK (attached to BVA Members’ Day)
  • Reading papers, contributing to debate, and providing constructive challenge
  • Meeting members at local events where possible
  • Safeguarding and promoting the good name and values of BVA

We pay your expenses and you’ll get free BVA membership for the duration of your term.

Members in each region will be invited to vote for their preferred candidate in January 2020, with the successful representative joining Council from April 2020 for a three-year term.

Role of Council

  • to represent members’ views on matters of veterinary policy
  • to advise the Board on matters of veterinary policy 
  • to appoint four members as Directors of the Board
  • to approve new members of the Association and to recommend honorary members, honorary associates and life members for election at the AGM
  • to recommend for election at the AGM the Council’s preferred candidates for President and Junior Vice President
